Rococo (Reimagined)

Are any of you familiar with this charming painting by Jean-Honore Fragonard? It's a classic Rococo style painting called The Swing from 1768, and probably one of the more famous paintings done in the Rococo style. Anyways, today I came across something that made me laugh out loud:
This awesome rendition by one of my favorite illustrators, Kate Beaton. She has done a lot of work for Walrus Magazine as well as creating a hilarious online comic called Hark! A Vagrant. Her humor is based around history, literature and art, and is one of my favorite online comics to read. Do you have any favorite online comics or illustrators that you follow regularly? I find they keep me inspired and cut the stress of every day life with their slices of humor.

Cobalt Craze

Don’t you just love the richness and regal quality that cobalt blue possesses? I think cobalt is going to make a big hit in the upcoming months for fashion. Make a big impact with a cobalt shirt or dress, or use it as an accent color paired with camels or blacks for a surprise pop of color.

Happy Holidays

Hope you have had a good holiday and spent some time doing things that you love with the people you love. Here's a little illustration I did yesterday for a card.

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Here's something that I worked on for my illustration class. Its done with water color, stitched thread, and a lame drawing done in adobe illustrator (i'm really not great with my pen tablet yet). It's supposed to be the cover for a Beach Fossils EP. They are a great band and I highly recommend checking out their music. I would like to work on the drawing a little more, and maybe done some hand lettering as well, but here's what I had time for. I'm happy with how the water color turned out and the way the stitching looks in the scan.
Enjoy!

Wouldn't this be the perfect party dress for the upcoming holidays? Very cute. You could pair it with any shade of tights. From Kate Spade. I just love her designs.

Illustrative Inspiration: Gemma Correll

If I were anything close to being as awesome at illustrating at Gemma Correll my life would be complete. I love everything she does. EVERYTHING. Her style is so cute and whimsical and hilarious. Inspiration for days! One thing she does that I really need to start doing is keeping an illustrated journal. I think it would really help me develop my style and ideas way more.
Anywho, check out her website, her blogs, her products, just everything done by her because it is awesome!
